Halkin doesn’t waste much time describing the origin of the worms or their motives. This is the story of a TV cameraman during a killer worm attack on England.

I mean, it didn’t win John Halkin the Nobel Prize for literature, but it kept me entertained for a few hours. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself enjoying it. I presumed it was going to be an exercise in scraping the bottom of the barrel, one of those awful novels I can only bare to skim. When I started reading Slither, I didn’t have high hopes. They’re more a trilogy of thematically, structurally and onomatopoeically similar books. The events in these books make no reference to the events in the others. I’ve seen people write these books off for seeming too silly, but I thought they were actually pretty entertaining. The titles and covers of the books in John Halkin’s Slither series are ridiculous, so ridiculous that I had to read them.
